The 26th annual Jet to Jetty 5K run/walk and 10K run benefiting the Airport Marina Counseling Service and Westchester Family YMCA will be held along Westchester Parkway Saturday, Aug. 21.

Seeking expanded community involvement, the Airport Marina Counseling Service, which has presented this run/walk for 25 years, has invited another local organization, the Westchester Family YMCA, to collaborate on this year’s event.

“We at AMCS are proud to announce that the Drollinger Family Charitable Foundation (DFCF) is the title sponsor of the 2010 race and, due to its level of sponsorship, this year’s race is renamed the Drollinger Family Charitable Foundation Jet to Jetty,” said Kathleen O’Leary Lefferman, AMCS executive director. “We are also pleased that longtime community supporters John and Gail Ruhlen will occupy the pace car, as the husband-and-wife grand marshals of this year’s event.”

This year’s race will be held on Westchester Parkway, making it convenient for members of the community and their friends to participate in the event, organizers say.

The 5K run/walk and the 10K run both start at 8 a.m., and two races will also be offered for children beginning at 9:15 a.m. Children ages 7 and under will take off first for a shortened version of the kids’ run, then children ages 8 to 10 years old will take off on the 1K fun run.

Runners can also take part in the team competition while wearing costumes. There will be a prize for the largest team participating. Registration opens at 6:30 a.m.

The Jet to Jetty will feature new and improved chip timing this year. The kids’ booth will have balloon hats, face painting, fun games and crafts. Refreshments and other prizes will also be provided.

“We are very proud to support Airport Marina Counseling Service, the Westchester Family YMCA and the DFCF Jet to Jetty and look forward to another wonderful event for the community,” said Karen Dial, president of the Drollinger Foundation.

The William H. Hannon Foundation has donated a cash prize of $2,500 to be claimed by the winner of an opportunity drawing that will be held at the race.

“Keeping our bodies in good shape is one of the best ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle and a healthy mental outlook. Therefore, we are happy to be working with AMCS to present a fun community event for all,” said Lisa D’Angelo, executive director of the Westchester Family YMCA who is an avid runner.

Early registration and packet pickup is available on Friday, Aug. 20 between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. at the Westchester Family YMCA, 8015 S. Sepulveda Blvd., Westchester.

Fees for the 5K and 10K events are $35. All registered runners will receive a free DFCF Jet to Jetty T-shirt. For $10, kids 10 and under will receive a free DFCF Jet to Jetty T-shirt, bib and a spot in the 1K kids fun run. Free parking is available on Sepulveda Westway.
