Joey Baker, longtime Westside Realtor and businessman, has been honored for 50 years of perfect attendance as a member of the Rotary Club.

Baker’s attendance was noted during a ceremony at a luncheon of the Venice-Marina Rotary Club Thursday, June 9th, at Shanghai Red’s restaurant in Marina del Rey.

Members of Rotary Clubs are expected to attend weekly meetings.

Rotary is an international organization and members can attend Rotary meetings anywhere in the world, including on cruise ships.

A Pasadena native, Baker came to the Venice area to visit his grandmother during childhood summers.

After leaving the U.S. Navy, he settled in Venice, where he bought and sold property and became known as “The Broker of Venice.”

With $500 he borrowed from his father, Baker made a down payment on his first home in Venice.

He continued to buy and sell land, apartments and houses on the Venice canals.

He built and sold houses for $6,950 to $7,500 on 25-foot lots when lots on the Venice canals could be purchased for $500.

Baker also helped start the Boys & Girls Club of Venice, where he served on the board of directors for several years.

He was president of the Venice Realty Board and active in B’nai B’rith and the Venice Chamber of Commerce. Baker has been a long-time member of the Del Rey Yacht Club.

Baker currently lives in Pacific Palisades with his wife Millie. The Bakers have two sons and one daughter.
