The John Wayne Cancer Institute of Santa Monica was among the beneficiaries of the televised fundraiser “FFANY Shoes on Sale” benefiting breast cancer research and education institutions.
Patrick Wayne, chairman of the John Wayne Cancer Institute Board of Directors, and William Watson, chief development officer, were presented with a $363,875 check by QVC and FFANY representatives in relation to the 15th annual fundraiser. QVC presented the fundraiser during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.
“For many years, we have greatly appreciated QVC and FFANY’s generosity and deep commitment to finding a cure for this dreadful disease,” said Dr. Armando E. Giuliano, chief of science and medicine and John Wayne Cancer Institute Breast Center director. “We are making tremendous progress in research and education thanks to this high level of support.”
Since its inception, “FFANY Shoes on Sale” has sold more than one million pairs of shoes and donated more than $30 million to leading breast cancer research and education institutions. It is believed to be the largest fundraising event in the shoe industry, in which top name brands donate products to help fund research for a cure for breast cancer.
