Joni Swenson, a teacher and arts specialist at Santa Monica High School, has been nominated for a Bravo Award, which is presented by the Music Center of Los Angeles County.
The 24th annual Bravo Awards will be presented Tuesday, February 28th, at a dinner hosted by director Garry Marshall at the Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.
Bravo Awards were established in 1982 to recognize teachers and schools for innovation and excellence in arts education.
Honorees include educators who have used the arts to revitalize teaching, enhance student achievement, and create an environment of self-esteem, teamwork, and cross-cultural communication among students.
Principals, faculty committees, superintendents, or parents make nominations.
Awards are presented in three categories — to a school, to an arts specialist teacher and to a general classroom teacher.
