Joseph Erwin McFadden, a resident of Playa del Rey for over 40 years, passed away peacefully at home August 8th after a brief battle with cancer at age 82. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Jean Kent McFadden.
McFadden was born in Spokane, Washington on November 4th, 1925. He spent his early years in Yakima, Washington. He graduated from Southern Oregon College of Education and taught elementary school in Los Angeles. McFadden also served in the U.S. Navy as a signalman and had numerous tours in the South Pacific, according to a family member.
McFadden also worked for many years in a variety of sales positions.
Upon retirement, his energies were focused on lowering his golf handicap, catching “the big one” and monitoring air traffic for Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
He leaves behind a loving family and numerous dog-loving friends and neighbors.
By his request, there will be no formal service.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Humane Society.
