The monthly jazz series at Joe’s Restaurant in Venice will continue Friday, March 2 with performances by the Josh Nelson Trio and special guest Kyle Wilson, beginning at 7 p.m.

Held in conjunction with First Friday on Abbot Kinney Boulevard, the series features instrumental and vocal artists, internationally recognized players as well as local talent, signed and unsigned, playing on the heated patio. The series debuted in February at Joe’s, 1023 Abbot Kinney Blvd., Venice.

The March 2 show includes pianist Josh Nelson and his trio, with Dan Schnelle on drums and Dave Robaire on bass. They will be joined by Wilson, a saxophonist from Brooklyn, NY.

Nelson has performed with some respected names in music, including Natalie Cole, Christian McBride, Anthony Wilson, Albert “Tootie” Heath, Ernie Watts, Peter Erskine, Queen Latifah, and many others. He has recorded five albums.

His latest work, Discoveries (2011), showcases original compositions for trio augmented by added winds, voice and guitar.

The artists will play three or four sets. There is no cover charge for the music, but dinner orders are required for table seating. Joe’s will give a complimentary glass of wine with dinner reservations made between 6 and 7 p.m.
