Julia Miele has been appointed as the new executive director of the YWCA Santa Monica/Westside.
She will succeed Sally Young, who plans to retire in December after 23 years of service. Miele, who will assume her new post December 1st, has a background in the nonprofit arena that includes her latest position as the director of fundraising for the AIDS Healthcare Foundation in Los Angeles.
Prior to her work at the Healthcare Foundation, Miele was director of community services for the American Cancer Society, where she worked with the board and where she volunteers in education and patient services programs.
She has also had international experience with management of Population Services International’s family planning, maternal and child health and HIV prevention programs in India and Washington D.C.
Miele has also served as a teacher of English in Japan.
YWCA officials said she brings to the organization a breadth of experience in fundraising, board development, financial and program management, and strategic planning.
