Muscle Beach will host its annual Labor Day championship bodybuilding, figure, and bikini contest Monday, Sept. 6, including a ceremony honoring one of its pioneers at the Venice Beach Recreation Center, 1800 Ocean Front Walk.

Male and female bodybuilders from the U.S. and other nations will compete in this third holiday bodybuilding and figure competition of the year. Anyone interested in joining the participants can enter.

Event day registration will begin at 7:30 a.m., with prejudging starting at 10 a.m. At noon there will be a hot dog eating challenge featuring “Furious Pete” Czerwinski, a competitive eating champion who won 17 of the 18 contests he has entered, against a group of challengers.

A welcoming ceremony is scheduled at 1 p.m., when a certificate of recognition will be presented to Relna Brewer McRae, one of four pioneers who established Muscle Beach in Santa Monica in 1934. The 90-year-old will be inducted into the Muscle Beach Hall of Fame.

The event finals in each division will follow the induction ceremony. At the conclusion of the competition, live music from “Flight 2Da Light” will be performed into the evening.

The registration fee for the competition is $80 per participant. Spectators are welcome and will be admitted at no charge. Several hundred permanent bleacher seats are available that were added before the Memorial Day bodybuilding competition.
