Ticket-holders can ride tall ship in boat parades

The tall ship Lady Washington will participate in both Marina del Rey Holiday Boat Parades next month and members of the public will be able to ride on the tall ship during the two boat parades in the main channel of Marina del Rey.

The first boat parade is planned between 7 and 9 p.m. Friday, December 10th, and the second boat parade is scheduled between 6 and 8 p.m. Saturday, December 11th.

A Zambelli-produced fireworks show at 5:55 p.m. Saturday, December 11th, is scheduled to kick off the Saturday parade, which will be judged.

Tickets to ride aboard the Lady Washington during the boat parade Friday, December 10th, will be $20 for adults and $10 for children.

Tickets to ride aboard the Lady Washington during the boat parade Saturday, December 11th, will be $30 for adults and $15 for children.

The theme of this year’s Holiday Boat Parade is “Sights and Sounds of the Holidays.”

The Lady Washington was built and launched in 1989 as part of the Washington State Centennial project.

The vessel is a 112-foot square-rigged brigantine built of Douglas fir, using traditional methods. It is a replica of the first American ship to round Cape Horn and land in the Pacific Northwest.

The vessel recently portrayed H.M.S. Interceptor in the Walt Disney production “Pirates of the Caribbean.”

All entries in the Marina Holiday Boat Parade will receive a Holiday Boat Parade burgee, compliments of Mare Company Sails, at a mandatory skipper’s meeting at 9 a.m. Saturday, December 11th, in the Burton Chace Park Community Building, 13650 Mindanao Way.
