Point guard Jordan Farmar of the NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers will be a guest speaker at the Boys & Girls Club of Venice’s “Basketball Mania” event from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, August 15th at the club, 2232 Lincoln Blvd.

Farmar will discuss basketball tips and life skills guidance to the event’s attendees.

The event, which is being sponsored by the Doctors Involved in Social Contributions (DISC) Foundation, will feature a three-on-three basketball tournament for children and teens, music, games, contests and giveaways for all who attend. “Basketball Mania” is a celebration of a fun and safe summer for club members, and it is anticipated to draw over 200 kids, teens and families to the club.

“We are excited and thrilled with the support we are receiving from the DISC Foundation,” said Erikk Aldridge, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of Venice.

The DISC Foundation is committed to the understanding that youth participation in active play and sports nurtures the development of a healthy body and mind, a foundation spokesman said.

“The Boys & Girls Club of Venice Basketball Mania event is an outstanding experience for the community,” said Dr. Robert S. Bray, Jr. founding director of the DISC Foundation. “We are pleased to offer our support to Jordan Farmar and the great work that is being done to help shape the lives of our youth in such a positive direction, a vision that we both share.”

Aldridge added, “Dr. Bray and many others in our community continue to show that they deeply care about the health and welfare of children in our community.”

Other event sponsors include Alvin Michaelson, Port Films, and Teddy Seraphine of Keller Williams Realty.

Proceeds from Basketball Mania will go to support the club’s sports, fitness and recreation programs, which include basketball, indoor soccer, baseball, flag football, a Nintendo Wii Fit Club and an award winning sailing program.
