The Los Angeles Police Department South Traffic division will hold its second annual “Rollin’ South Traffic Style” car and motorcycle show and traffic safety fair Saturday, July 14, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the LAPD Ahmanson Recruit Training Center, 5651 W. Manchester Ave., in Westchester.

According to LAPD Officer Johnny Gil with the Community Traffic Safety Unit, “Our goal is to reach out to the immediate community and surrounding areas with this fun, family-oriented, free event.”

Gil told The Argonaut that in his time spent helping to protect the community, it has become very close to his heart, and he has developed a strong sense of respect and care for the community members.

“This family-oriented event and the programs it helps to fund are a great way to educate community members about the many safety programs that the LAPD operates to help keep them safe and informed,” said Gil.

The event is hosted by the South Traffic Advisory Council (STAC). In addition, an “Academy to Academy Motorcycle Run” will begin at the Elysian Park Academy in Los Angeles at 9 a.m. and conclude at the Manchester Police Academy. A $30 per bike donation includes show parking and a T-shirt.

“We’re expecting approximately 250 show vehicles and 80 motorcycles to be entered in this monumental event that benefits the LAPD South Bureau community safety programs, traffic safety programs serving South Traffic Division, South West Division, 77th Division, South East Division and Harbor Division,” stated LAPD Police Chief Charlie Beck in a letter.

“The funds are used to organize, prepare and deliver traffic safety education in the schools and throughout the community through a variety of programs, such as youth education on the hazards and reality of drinking and driving through the ‘Sober Graduation’ program, bicycle safety, and the ‘School Safety Valet’ program at grammar schools throughout the city.”

Raffle prizes, family fun, live music, vendor booths, and gourmet food trucks are part of the event. Participating food trucks have menu items that include Cuban, American, Korean barbeque, Tex-Mex cuisine and desserts.

The pre-registration fee for all vehicles is $30, and pre-registration must be received by Monday, July 9. The fee will be $35 after July 9 and the day of the event. Each entry includes a free T-shirt and goodie bag. Multiple car owners and club members must enter together in order to be placed together. Vehicle and vendor check-in is scheduled from 6 to 9 a.m. A special award will be given for Best of Show, Captain’s Award, as well as a “Most Likely To Be Pulled Over” plaque.

An LAPD job fair and hiring seminar will also take place, and interested parties can take the LAPD written test at the car show. The information session is scheduled at 8 a.m. and the written exam at 9 a.m. Information about hiring, (866) 444-LAPD (5273), or
