A Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Pacific officer was accidentally shot in the leg while attempting to detain a number of pedestrians in Venice late Monday, November 24th, police said.

Officers were on patrol at about 11 p.m. in the 700 block of Sunset Avenue, west of Lincoln Boulevard in Venice, when they tried to detain a group of pedestrians for questioning, an LAPD spokeswoman said.

During the incident, one of the officers was shot after a “negligent discharge” while some of the pedestrians attempted to flee, she said.

The officer was taken to a local hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening injury, she said.
