The long -awaited campus renovation of Loyola Marymount University was approved by the 1-Los Angeles City Council Friday, Feb. 25.
The unanimous vote paves the way for the 20-year overhaul of the university’s student residences, laboratories and buildings. Supporters of the initiative included Westchester business owners, current faculty and students, City Councilman Bill Rosendahl, LMU alumni and the Neighborhood Council of Westchester-Playa. Construction is slated to begin this summer.
2-Marcy Winograd will officially announce her intentions to challenge Los Angeles City Councilwoman Janice Hahn and Secretary of State Debra Bowen for the 36th Congressional District seat that will be vacated by Rep. Jane Harman (D-Venice) on Saturday, Feb. 26 in Torrance.
“In Congress, I will fight to put people back to work in productive ways and to protect our social safety net from corporate greed and war profiteering. Now is the time to join the international call for greater democracy, and to restore the people’s voice to the people’s house,” said Winograd, a LAUSD teacher who challenged Harman last year in the Democratic primary. The candidate’s kickoff party will be at 1327 El Prado Ave. in Torrance, in front of Fox Drug of Torrance.
