Leah Mildred Gant, a longtime Santa Monica resident and former McDonald-Douglas employee, passed away peacefully earlier this year. She was 97.

Born in Ohio, Gant lived most of her life in Santa Monica. She graduated from Santa Monica High School with the class of 1929.

In 1930 she married James Monroe Gant and they were together for 62 years until he passed away in 1992. After a full career at McDonald-Douglas and retirement, Gant continued to serve the community she loved for many more years, assisting at the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District and Meals for Millions.

For the last few years of her life, Gant lived with her only child, Donna Gant-Guenther, and Donna’s husband John in Aptos.

Gant is survived by two grandchildren, Christian James Guenther, who graduated from Santa Monica High in 1986, and Grant Brodie Guenther.

A ceremony is scheduled at 11 a.m. Monday, May 4th, at Woodlawn Cemetery, 14th Street and Pico Boulevard, in Santa Monica. All are welcome to attend.
