Author and film historian Harry Medved will present a lecture, a screening and a walking tour featuring Santa Monica locations seen in various films at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 11th.

K-MZT 105.1 FM radio personality and Santa Monica local Rich Capparela will introduce the event, which takes place at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel, Malibu Bungalow, 101 Wilshire Blvd. at Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica. The program is free, open to the public and scheduled to conclude at 5 p.m.

Hotel valet parking may be available but will not be validated. Street parking and City of Santa Monica parking structures may also be available.

Medved suggests that guests wear comfortable walking shoes. The tour is a 1.5-mile round trip at a stroll pace along Palisades Park.

Co-author of the recently published Hollywood Escapes: The Moviegoers Guide to Exploring Southern California’s Great Outdoors, Medved plans to explore the history of filming in Santa Monica with clips from movies.

Movies filmed in Santa Monica include Rebel Without A Cause, Get Shorty, Ocean’s Eleven, The Truth About Cats & Dogs, It’s A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World and The Sting.

Beginning with Vitagraph Studios, located next to the Rapp Saloon theater in 1911, and up to present years, Santa Monica’s “famed natural and architectural environment” has hosted Hollywood filmmakers who used a range of locations in the city, Medved said.

Medved’s guidebook will be on sale, with proceeds benefiting the Santa Monica Conservancy, a nonprofit organization that educates the public about preserving Santa Monica’s cultural heritage.
