Commends Venice Surf & Skate Association for cleaning facilities

To the Editor:

The Venice Surf & Skate Association (VSA) needs to be thanked, if not for their unrelenting cleaning of graffiti from the skate park on the beach and cleaning of the park and adjacent area. But they also went out of their way to pressure-wash the disgustingly dirty children’s playground equipment at the Oakwood Recreation Center (ORC).

With all the resources that the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks have and use at the beach, they seem to forget about the other parks.

This is not a slight on them; it’s just something that has fallen through the cracks.

This cleaning at the ORC was done by volunteers with equipment they donated to the VSA without anyone requesting it be done. They saw how dirty it was and branched out in the community and cleaned it.

Condolences offered for loss of Argonaut editor and publisher

To the Editor:

The Friends of Ballona Wetlands board, staff and friends wish to extend their deepest sympathies to The Argonaut staff for the loss of their editor and publisher, Carol Hector. Carol was a good friend of the Friends. We will miss her.

Through the years Carol, and the late Argonaut founder David Asper Johnson, were diligent in covering the Friends and their battle to save the Ballona Wetlands.

She was always considerate, available and very mindful of continuing Dave Johnson’s vision of what a local newspaper should be.

That vision gave us The Argonaut, and we hope it will continue in honor of both of them.
