Longtime Santa Monica resident and teacher Libbie Ranslem has died. She was 101.

Ranslem passed away April 17th in Orange.

She was born in Prague, Nebraska in 1907 as one of nine children. In 1936 she married John Ranslem.

Ranslem, who earned her bachelor’s degree in music with a minor in English, was a teacher for over 40 years and served as the director of the Ocean Park Children’s Center.

Active in her church, Ranslem taught Sunday School, directed children’s choirs and was a member of the United Methodist Women

She loved to study the Bible, friends and family said, and she enjoyed singing, sewing, baking and her family. Friends also said she was adored by many and will be deeply missed.

Ranslem was preceded in death by her husband John and daughter Della. She is survived by daughter Karen, granddaughters Michelle and Darcy, great-granddaughters Sarah and Megan, extended family members Pat and Nanette and many other relatives.

Memorial services for Ranslem are scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 3rd, at the First United Methodist Church, 1008 11th St., Santa Monica.
