The Fairview Branch Library, 2101 Ocean Park Blvd. in Santa Monica, is seeking volunteer library tutors to assist children with reading and homework in first through fifth grades.

Most of the children needing assistance do not speak English as their first language and are performing below grade level.

Tutor volunteers are assigned a student and meet at the Fairview Branch library for one hour each week.

Volunteers range in age from high school students to senior citizens.

Applicants should be native English speakers. They may select a day and time best suited to their schedule, between 3 and 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, or between 10:30 a.m. and noon Saturday.

All volunteers 18 years of age and over are required to be fingerprinted as part of a background check for people working with the children.

Applicants should contact Sylvia Anderle, Fairview Branch Children’s Librarian, (310) 450-0443 or Sylvia.Anderle@smgov .net
