The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Board of Education has appointed Laurie Lieberman and Maria Leon-Vazquez as president and vice president, respectively, for 2013.
The board voted on the appointments at its annual reorganization meeting Dec. 13.
Lieberman, who served as vice president this past year, replaces Board Member Ben Allen as president.
“Our district is fortunate to have such dedicated elected officials,” said Superintendent Sandra Lyon. “I look forward to working with both Ms. Lieberman and Ms. Leon-Vazquez as they take on their leadership roles for the year.”
Lieberman was first elected to serve on the Board of Education in the November 2010 election.
First elected in November 2000, Leon-Vazquez won a fourth four-year term on the Board of Education Nov. 6.
