The P-4 was the last dory to be rowed by Ed Perry, a city and county lifeguard skipper known for his many rescues. After Perry died, the boat languished on the public beach just south of the lifeguard headquarters at Venice Beach. Snyder and Dunnigan determined that without immediate intervention, the derelict P-4 and a piece of lifeguarding history would be lost. Randy Steigley undertook the yearlong project to restore the boat and Dunnigan and Snyder sanded and finished it.
