Los Angeles County prosecutors filed a felony grand theft charge against actress Lindsay Lohan Feb. 9 for allegedly stealing a “one of a kind” necklace from a Venice jewelry store.
Lohan, whose Venice home is near the jewelry store, was scheduled to be arraigned at the Superior Court Airport Courthouse Feb. 9, a county District Attorney’s Office spokesperson said.
The actress was allegedly seen walking out of the store on Abbot Kinney Boulevard with the necklace, valued at $2,500, on Jan. 22, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
As part of a grand theft investigation, Los Angeles Police Department Pacific detectives obtained a search warrant Feb. 1 to search Lohan’s Venice home for the necklace. Prior to service of the warrant, the necklace was returned to the Pacific Station, police said.
The LAPD investigated the alleged theft and presented evidence to the District Attorney’s Office. An attorney for Lohan previously said in a statement that the actress intended to fight any charges.
A judge has indicated that Lohan would face jail time for any violation of her probation in a 2007 misdemeanor driving under the influence case.
