Santa Monica resident Michael Lohan, father of actress Lindsay Lohan, received minor injuries when he was attacked while entering his vehicle near Santa Monica Beach Oct. 21, police said.

Lohan was parked in the 1600 block of Appian Way at about 9:50 p.m. when a suspect approached him and a physical altercation ensued, Santa Monica police Sgt. Jay Trisler said.

After the suspect fell to the ground during the altercation, he got up and then fled on foot toward the beach, Trisler said. Lohan attempted to chase after the suspect but then stopped after realizing he was bleeding, Trisler said.

The victim was treated at the scene for minor lacerations to his neck and forearm. Trisler said it was unclear if the suspect had targeted Lohan and the incident was being investigated as an assault with a deadly weapon. No items were taken from Lohan.

The incident occurred the night before Lohan’s daughter, Lindsay, was scheduled to appear for a court hearing.

The suspect is described as a white man, approximately 40 to 50 years old, 6 foot 1, with a medium build, and shoulder length black hair. He was last seen wearing a black beanie or baseball cap, black long sleeve running shirt and black pants, police said.
