Loyola Marymount University (LMU) received a $1 million grant this summer from the Fletcher Jones Foundation to help defray the cost of construction of the William H. Hannon Library.
“The Fletcher Jones Foundation has been an important supporter of LMU for a long time,” said Kristine Brancolini, dean of university libraries.
“So, I’m very excited that the foundation now is playing an important role in the education of our students through this generous gift to the library.”
The Fletcher Jones Foundation has a long history of supporting private higher education institutions, particularly in California, according to LMU.
The foundation recently funded the Fletcher Jones Chair of Literature and Writing, held by RubÈn MartÌnez, professor in the Department of English at LMU.
The William H. Hannon Library is scheduled to open in fall 2009.
