State Senator Jenny Oropeza asks residents to honor those who died September 11th, 2001 by helping to build stronger communities through public service, in particular by participating in community-wide drives for blood and food to help the needy.

Author of a successful state resolution to annually recognize the nation’s loss on September 11th, Oropeza, has urged local residents each year since 2001 to help build stronger families and friendships.

All blood donors receive a ticket good for free admission to the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach.

Local drop-off sites for food, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Sunday between September 1st and 13th, in The Argonaut coverage area include:

n LAX area — Los Angeles Fire Station, 6911 World Way West, Westchester;

n Marina del Rey area — Los Angeles County Fire Station #110, 4433 Admiralty Way, Marina del Rey;

n Venice area — Los Angeles Fire Station #63, 1930 Shell Ave., Venice;

n Westchester area — Los Angeles Fire Station #5, 8900 South Emerson Ave., Westchester; and

n Mar Vista area — Los Angeles Fire Station #62, 11970 Venice Blvd., Mar Vista.

Blood may be given from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 9th, at Los Angeles Physician Support Services, 5767 W. Century Blvd. #400, Westchester.
