Grassroots Acoustica’s local troupe will pay tribute to legendary singer Carly Simon on her birthday with a performance from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, June 25 at the Talking Stick Coffee Lounge, 1411 C Lincoln Blvd., Venice.

The troupe will honor the two-time Grammy Award winner and Academy Award winner by singing selections from her songbook.

The event is part of a new semi-regular, single-artist survey series called Grassroots Iconica.

There is no cover charge for the event, but 100 percent of voluntary donations will benefit the Grassroots Acoustica Foundation, a newly-formed nonprofit organization whose mission is to inspire musicians and music fans to make measurable differences in Los Angeles’ charitable community.

Troupe performers include founder/host Mark Islam, Jane Bolduc, Jeff Kossack, Lauren Adams, Lisa Johnson, Lisa Nemzo, Karen Tobin, Lois Blaisch, Mare Lennon and Stefani Valadez; backed by musicians Edward Tree, Debra Dobkin and Lynn Coulter.

The monthly benefit series Grassroots Acoustica, which is about to celebrate its fourth anniversary, has raised nearly $40,000 in voluntary contributions supporting education, arts, social services, medical research and animal rescue, a group spokesperson said.
