Mardelle E. Hinners, a Mar Vista resident for over 40 years who formerly served as an American Airlines flight attendant for over 30 years, passed away April 28 after a short illness. She was 94.
She was hired by American Airlines in the 1940s as one of the company’s first 1,000 employees, friends said. Hinners often flew to Europe on international flights out of New York and retired from American Airlines in the 1970s.

She was born in the rural town of Meredosia, Ill. and soon after her family moved to Chambersburg, Ill. Hinners graduated from Chambersburg High School and later graduated from the Peoria Methodist Hospital School of Nursing.
She is survived by one brother, Arthur H. Hinners, Jr. of Brenham, TX, and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
