Gloria Giumarra dies at 78

Gloria Giumarra, a 35-year resident of Marina del Rey, has died. She was 78.

Giumarra passed away Saturday, April 3rd in Santa Monica with her loved ones by her side after a courageous four-and-a-half-year battle with cancer.

She was born November 11th, 1931 in Los Angeles as the second of three children to Sunday and George Giumarra. She lived in Los Angeles until 1949, when her family moved to Bakersfield.

Giumarra married John Murray in 1954 and the couple was married for 20 years. When Giumarra’s sons were grown, she returned to the Los Angeles area and settled in Marina del Rey, where she lived for 35 years.

One of her greatest joys was her spectacular view of the Marina and Pacific Ocean, family members said.

Giumarra is survived by her son Gregory Murray, his wife Heliana, and step-granddaughter Deanny; son Mark Murray, his wife Laurie and their children Monica, Alexander and Matthew; brother George Giumarra and his wife Marcia; nieces Machelle Louderback, Connie Jansen, Janelle Giumarra and nephew Jeffrey Giumarra; many other family members and special family friend, Faud Najjar.

Family members say Giumarra was a loving, generous and devoted mother, nana, aunt and sister who will be sorely missed. Per her request, Giumarra’s ashes were scattered at sea.
