Longtime Marina del Rey resident Manuel ‘Manny’ Ramirez, 85, died Friday, April 27th, at his home.

Born on March 29th, 1921 in Hurley, New Mexico, he moved with his new bride Vera to southern California when he was 21.

Together they raised three children, Benjamin, Samuel ‘Dave’ and Dolores.

Working for over 40 years with the Sears Roebuck and Co., Ramirez found his niche in the Technical and Maintenance Services Division, performing in-home appliance maintenance and repairs across Los Angeles County, according to the family.

Ramirez was a member of the Church of St. Mark in Venice, serving as a minister.

He also frequently volunteered.

Ramirez was a member of St. Gerard’s and Westchester Seniors Clubs; the Knights of Columbus, Playa del Rey and the Benevolent & Protective Order of the Elks Westchester Lodge.

He was also a member of The Sportsman’s Lodge of Westwood and enjoyed golf, fishing and bowling and dancing and traveling with his wife.

Ramirez is survived by his wife of 65 years, Vera, sons Benjamin of Vista, California and Dave of Washington State, and daughter Dolores of Manhattan Beach, California. He is also survived by three granddaughters: Terrianne, Belinda and Olivia.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m., Thursday, May 10th, at The Elks Lodge, 8025 Manchester Ave., Playa del Rey.
