Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners member Sam Nazarian has resigned from the board effective immediately.

After serving the volunteer

position for a year, Nazarian announced he is stepping down to focus his efforts on the expansion of SBE, the leading luxury hospitality, real estate development and lifestyle company of which he is founder and CEO.

“Sam is a tremendous asset to the city,” said Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. “I thank him for his service on the Airport Commission and am confident that we can find a way for him to continue to serve the city and utilize his invaluable experience in another capacity.”

As airport commissioner, Nazarian helped the board focus on developing the economic base of Los Angeles and the advancement of the city locally and nationally through the operations at Los Angeles International Airport, a spokesman for the mayor said.

“It has been a pleasure to serve on the board with Sam,” said Alan Rothenberg, president of the Board of Airport Commissioners. “During

the past year we have worked closely on the development of Los Angeles’ airport policy, and he has been an invaluable addition to this group of community leaders.”

Nazarian said serving on the Airport Commission has been “an immense honor and privilege.”

“I have relayed my commitment to continue to serve the city to the mayor and commissioners and will be available to serve in an advisory role if ever called upon,” he said.

The search for Nazarian’s replacement on the Airport Commission will begin immediately, the mayor’s spokesperson said.
