The 17th annual Los Angeles Women’s Theatre Festival will honor six women for their career and life achievements at its Opening Night Champagne Gala and Awards Ceremony Thursday, March 25th at the Electric Lodge in Venice. The festival runs through Sunday, March 28th.

The opening night reception is scheduled at 7 p.m., followed by a show at 8 p.m. with entertainment by performers Ingrid Graham, Juliette Marshall, Mzuri Moya and Bonnie Weiss at the Electric Lodge, 1416 Electric Ave., Venice.

The Los Angeles Women’s Theater Festival has acquired an international reputation for presenting work by multicultural women from around the country in theater, dance, music, performance poetry, performance art and storytelling, an event spokesperson said. The women represent a wide range of ethnic, cultural, and religious backgrounds.

This year’s theme “In Tribute” honors women who have made laudable contributions in theater. There will be a presentation of the Integrity, Eternity, Rainbow, Maverick, and Infinity Awards to six distinguished women by honorary co-chair Hattie Winston and Ted Lange.

Florence LaRue, a singer with The Fifth Dimension, will receive the Integrity award and the Eternity Award goes to actress Connie Sawyer. For choreography and dance, Sri Susilowati will receive the Rainbow Award, while Odalys Nanin, a playwright, actor, producer and director, will receive the Maverick Award.

The Infinity Award will be presented posthumously to actresses Bea Arthur and Alaina Reed Hall.

Tickets for the opening gala are $40 for one or $75 for a pair, while admission to the weekend’s other performances costs $20-25.
