Venice resident David Lumian has been appointed by Gov. Jerry Brown to the California Boating and Waterways Commission.

Lumian, 57, serves as the director of the Southern California Yachting Association and the chair of the Los Angeles County Small Craft Harbor Commission.

He has been a consultant for the American Sailing Association since 2007.

Lumian previously was the owner of Twist Management from 1984 to 2007.

On the seven-member Boating and Waterways Commission, one member is required to be a private small craft harbor owner and operator, one member must belong to a recognized statewide organization representing recreational boaters, and one member must be an officer or employee of a local law enforcement agency responsible for enforcing boating laws.

This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem.
