meetings concerning plans for SM Place

As part of a proposed development agreement with the City of Santa Monica, The Macerich Company is holding four community meetings regarding company plans to redevelop Santa Monica Place Mall.

“We are at the point in the process where we can reach out to the community and have the residents take an active part in redesigning Santa Monica Place,” said Randy Brant, Macerich senior vice president of leasing and development.

In January, the Santa Monica City Council voted to enter into a development agreement with Macerich, which wants to raze the mall and rebuild for outdoor shopping, offices and housing.

Councilmembers directed city staff to develop an outreach plan to get planning input from the community on the future of Santa Monica Place.

“The City Council placed a high priority on hearing from the Santa Monica community,” said Gordon Anderson, assistant city manager.

“These meetings are an important first step,” Anderson said.
