A 49-year-old Santa Monica man who died five days after he was found assaulted on a sidewalk in Santa Monica was the victim of a homicide, a Los Angeles County Coroner spokeswoman said.
Preston Brumfield was found lying unconscious with facial injuries on a sidewalk in the 1900 block of 20th Street, near Delaware Avenue, at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday, May 11th, Santa Monica police Sgt. Renaldi Thruston said.
He was taken to the UCLA Medical Center in Westwood, where he died Friday, May 16th, police said. The cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma to the head, a coroner spokeswoman said.
Santa Monica police are asking for the public’s help in identifying one or more suspects who allegedly assaulted Brumfield. Police currently do not have any suspect information.
Police are unsure of the circumstances of the assault and are continuing to investigate the incident, Thruston said.
