A 50-year-old Los Angeles man was found dead after he apparently drowned while fishing near a dock in Marina del Rey early Friday, May 8th, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials said.

The body of Douglas Duval was found floating in the water near the 14000 block of Palawan Way at about 3:15 a.m., county coroner spokesman Ed Winter said.

Duval had reportedly been fishing with a friend at a dock near Mothers Beach and the friend left the area for a short time, Winter said. When the friend returned to the area, he discovered Duval’s body floating in the water, Winter said.

Sheriff’s homicide Sgt. Delores Scott said investigators found no evidence of foul play and it appears that Duval accidentally drowned.

An autopsy was scheduled to determine the cause of death and toxicology tests were pending to determine if alcohol or drugs may have been a factor, Scott said.
