A body of a man was found dead in the 1300 block of Sixth Street in Santa Monica around 6 a.m. Wednesday, June 30th, according to Santa Monica police, who were called to the area at 5:52 a.m. on a report of suspicious circumstances.

Officers believe the man was a victim of an assault.

The Los Angeles County coroner’s officer will determine the exact cause of death.

The victim’s identity had not been released, pending notification of the next of kin.

The victim was described as in his mid-30s, African American, and alleged by police to be a transient.
