A half-naked man who went for a stroll along the edge of an apartment building rooftop on Monday morning kept Santa Monica police and firefighters busy for more than an hour before he decided it was time to come down.
A crisis response unit and several other officers were deployed to the 1600 block of Appian Way and later took the man to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation, Santa Monica police Sgt. Jay Moroso said.
Moroso said the man did not threaten to commit suicide and appeared to lose interest in being on the rooftop after all but a few officers left the scene.
“Police were there just trying to talk him down,” Moroso said. “Once the audience was gone, he basically came down by himself.”
