A 47-year-old man who allegedly masturbated next to a woman in an El Segundo parking lot was arrested June 9 at his home in Playa Vista, police said.

Frederick J. Rogers was arrested without incident by El Segundo police at about 8 p.m. at his residence in the 13100 block of Pacific Promenade in Playa Vista, Lt. Raymond Garcia said. The suspect was booked for attempted sexual assault, burglary, lewd conduct and indecent exposure, Garcia said.

Rogers is accused of following a woman for several blocks in a metallic blue Lexus SUV to the parking lot of Walgreens in the 300 block of N. Sepulveda Boulevard in El Segundo May 23, police said. After the woman quickly parked and exited her vehicle, Rogers allegedly parked next to her and began masturbating, police said.

The woman then ran into the store, where the suspect allegedly followed her on foot, police said. Once the suspect lost sight of the victim, she left the area and called police.

Images of the suspect taken from video surveillance at the store were released to the public and police later received an anonymous tip, Garcia said. Through investigation and the assistance of local media, El Segundo police detectives were able to identify the suspect and his place of residence, Garcia said.
