A suspect who was allegedly burglarizing a car at a Mar Vista residence early Sunday, May 3rd, was shot in the face after struggling with residents who confronted him, police said.

Three residents were inside a home in the 3800 block of Beethoven Street, near Venice Boulevard in Mar Vista at 1:50 a.m., when they heard several “loud bangs,.” Los Angeles Police Department officer Norma Eisenman said.

One of the residents went outside to see what happened and saw three suspects who were allegedly trying to break into a car, Eisenman said. After the resident began to fight with the suspects, the two other residents in the home came to assist in the altercation.

One of the residents then pulled out a handgun and shot one of the suspects, who was struck on the side of the mouth, Eisenman alleged. The two other suspects, described only as Hispanic men, fled the scene. No other injuries were reported.

The shooting victim, described as a Hispanic man approximately 18 to 25 years old, was taken to a local hospital in stable condition, Eisenman said. The suspect was arrested and charges were pending.

Police determined that the man who shot at the suspect acted in self defense and he was not arrested, Eisenman said.
