Venice High School students have been invited to perform in the National Performing Arts Festival in New York City, which will be held Friday, February 17th, through Monday, February 20th.

The students were given short notice of the invitation and are unable to afford the cost of the trip or raise funds. The high school is seeking donations from the public. The cost per student is $1,300 and 35 students plus eight adult chaperones are scheduled to go on the trip.

“Venice High School stands an excellent chance of winning the division,” said Traci Nichols-Thrasher, director of the high school’s theater department. “The invitation is indeed an honor.”

The festival features the nation’s top high school troupes performing on a Broadway stage in front of theater experts. High-scoring troupes go on to perform live on a Disney stage. Students will also participate in various theater seminars.

Donations are tax-exempt and checks can be made payable to Venice High School Drama Department. Information, Thrasher at (310) 306-7981 ext. 310 or email her at
