Maricela Gomez has joined Playa Vista as director of government relations and Michelle Fleenor is the new Playa Vista director of special projects.

Previously, Gomez was the legislative deputy for Los Angeles City Councilmember Wendy Greuel and Fleenor was Central Area Director for Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

Both new staffers will report directly to Doug Moreland, Playa Vista senior vice president of development.

MARICELA GOMEZ —As director of government relations, Gomez will be responsible for managing Playa Vista’s day-to-day relationships with governmental entities at the local and state levels, as well as participating in company community relations and philanthropic programs, Moreland said.

In Greuel’s office, Gomez handled district-wide issues, such as transportation and public works planning, and served as a liaison for Neighborhood Councils.

Gomez was also former field deputy to former Councilmember Ruth Galanter.

Gomez received a Bachelor of Arts in sociology from the University of California, Los Angeles.

MICHELLE FLEENOR — As director of special projects, Fleenor will work closely with the community relations, government relations and development teams at Playa Vista. She will also serve as a direct liaison to Playa Vista residents and several local Neighborhood Councils.

“The director of special projects is a new position for us,” Moreland said. “With more than 4,000 residents now living at Playa Vista, we realized the immediate need for a person with Michelle’s skills.”

“I have already had the opportunity to work with the residents and they are really excited about getting involved on a civic level,” Fleenor said.

“As a resident of the Westside, I am looking forward to becoming more involved with the local Neighborhood Councils.”

Fleenor joins Playa Vista from the office of Villaraigosa, where she served as the central area director for a wide area including the Fairfax District, Hollywood, Pico-Union, Silver Lake and Griffith Park. She also held this post in the Hahn administration.

Earlier, Fleenor was a field deputy for Councilmember Tom LaBonge and also was a marketing representative and public relations assistant for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.

Fleenor received a Bachelor of Science in business management from Pepperdine University.
