William “Red” Schneider, a resident of the Marina del Rey area for over 55 years, has died. He was 81.

Schneider was surrounded by his family when he passed away at his Marina del Rey home Friday, September 7th, following a brief battle with cancer.

Born in Detroit on May 20th, 1926, Schneider moved to Southern California at the age of six.

He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II after enlisting at the age of 16, and he served until the end of the war.

Schneider is survived by his wife of 58 years, Phyllis, his son Bill, nieces Charlotte Hamilton and Dianna Jennings, nephew Patrick Allaway and many friends.

A memorial service for Schneider is scheduled at noon Saturday, September 15th, at the Holy Redeemer Chapel, Holy Cross Cemetery, 5835 W. Slauson Ave., Culver City.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the City of Hope.
