Eleven Cruiser class boats participated in the second race of the Santa Monica Windjammers Yacht Club (SMWYC)-hosted Barbecue Series Sunday, July 24th.

Five “Under 30” boats and six “30 and Over” boats enjoyed good breezes and smooth seas over a 8.2-nautical-mile course.

The race began at SS mark, sailed north to the Santa Monica Bell buoy and returned to finish in front of SMWYC.

Trophy winners included:

Under 30 Class:

first place, Joe Cowan of South Bay Yacht Racing Club, sailing his Columbia 24, Wind Song; and

second place, Gerald Sobel of Women’s Sailing Association, sailing his Cal 24, Shpritz.

Over 30 Class:

first place, Shari Landon, SMWYC, at the helm of Stu Coleman’s Beneteau 331, Reliance; and

second place, Linda Richards SMWYC, sailing her Catalina 321, Cuba Libre 2.

Race committee duties were provided by Lee Rhoad’s Santana 30/30, Crimson Star.

The next race in this series will be Sunday, August 14th, with entries taken at SMWYC before noon Sunday.

The race fee is $5.

Yacht club membership is not required to join this race.
