The Marina del Rey Big Boat Show (formerly called the Marina del Rey In-Water Boat Show) is set to showcase new lines of large yachts and sailboats by favorite manufacturers, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday through Sunday, January 13th to 16th, in Burton Chace Park, 13650 Mindanao Way, Marina del Rey.

Admission is $10 per person, and children 12 and under are admitted free. The event is presented by the Westchester/LAX-Marina del Rey Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by the Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors.

Organizers are promoting the show as a day for families, boating enthusiasts and newcomers to experience the yachting and sailboating lifestyle. Show-goers will have the opportunity to tour a mÈlange of recreational boats.

There will also be a food court to try to give the event a picnic-in-the-park feel for families.

Some eye-catching anomalies, outside the realm of normal boats, such as a submarine and and a 90-foot yacht, will be on view and available for tours.

In addition to hundreds of boats and accessories, the Marina del Rey Big Boat Show will feature marine service companies, including Breeze Easy, Inc., that provide incorporation and management services for fractional ownership of yachts and sailboats. This allows recreational and novice boaters to time-share a yacht or sailboat with others at a smaller cost than full ownership and with less burden of upkeep and maintenance involved.

Captain Suzanne Rafetto of Sea Mist Skippers will offer free half-hour harbor cruises during the Big Boat Show aboard her 32-foot offshore catamaran Sea Biscuit.

Sea Biscuit, which can reach a top speed of 55 knots, was once the personal launch for America’s Cup winner Dennis Conner.

Highlights of the show will include a new line of Catalina yachts, shown by Segal’s Catalina Yacht Anchorage, and a display of Rodman yachts, shown by Marina del Rey broker Randall Burg. The Rodman vessels are an exotic and well-liked Spanish brand of yachts that are uncommon in the United States, Burg says.
