Two Marina del Rey Realtors have established a scholarship fund that is administered through the Boys & Girls Club of Venice to support students pursuing an education through trade school, junior college or university.
Realtors Debra Berman and Pat Kandel have launched the Ruth Wells Scholarship to honor Kandel’s mother, Ruth Wells, who passed away at age 96 in January.
“My mother was a longtime Westchester resident and a devoted volunteer for the Boys & Girls Club of Venice,” says Kandel. “Deb and I feel the scholarship honors her memory by furthering the mission of the Boys & Girls Club, ‘to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.’ These scholarships will bring ‘full potential’ even closer for five students each year.”
Berman noted that they have already raised $7,000 toward the fund.
“We anticipate that contributions will sustain and expand the fund as Pat and I review the applications and interview applicants. We are so excited to meet these young people and are deeply grateful to those who have contributed,” Berman said.
Named among the Top 200 Real Estate Teams in the Nation by the Wall Street Journal, Berman and Kandel have represented home sellers and buyers in Marina del Rey, Playa del Rey, Santa Monica, Westchester, Culver City, Mar Vista and Venice since they established their partnership in 1985.
