Michel Haring, a Marina del Rey resident and avid sailboat racer, died April 30th. He was 64.
Haring was a loving father and grandfather who was always adventurous and fun to be with, family members said.
He was a captain of his boat and someone who enjoyed taking advantage of every available moment to be out conquering the oceans, his family said.
Haring was an artist of woodwork who was skillful at repairing antiques and creating masterpieces.
Haring, who started sailing in Marina del Rey in 1977 at the California Sailing Academy, raced with friends at various events over the years and continued to race in the Marina until a few months ago. He has a son, Shane, who is 41.
Haring lived on his boat in the Marina for the last 12 years with his dogs and had won many dog shows at Burton Chace Park and Catalina Island.
He was a good friend and was always willing to help others when he could, family members said.
A celebration of Haring’s life is scheduled at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 29th at the Pacific Mariners Yacht Club, 13915 Panay Way, Marina del Rey.
