The Far West Ski Association has selected Marina del Rey resident Sigrid Noack as its 2012 Woman of the Year.
Noack, who has been a leader and active participant in the Single Ski Club of Los Angeles, an alpine and cross country ski program, since 1979, was recently presented with the award at the association’s 80th annual convention in Ogden, UT.
Founded in 1930, the Far West Ski Association is a volunteer, nonprofit organization representing 180 affiliated ski clubs throughout 11 regional councils in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, South Dakota, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
The association conducts active programs in public affairs, skier safety, ski heritage, athletics, racing, communications, travel, council development, ski industry and community outreach. In addition to the 180 ski club delegates who attended the annual meeting, about 100 ski and sports industry representatives participated in the weekend’s events.
Since 1995 Noack has been a leader in the Single Ski Club, striving to assist disabled skiers with snow sports activities, according to the association. Her work with the ski association has included organizing and encouraging other ski club leaders to become more involved with charity programs in their community.
Aside from the local ski club, Noack is actively involved in volleyball, softball, tennis, water skiing, tennis and river rafting. She is also a supporter of The Unrecables (UNlimited RECreational ABILities), the Los Angeles chapter of Disabled Sports, USA. ¤
