Marina del Rey resident Gary Hunt, a managing partner at California Strategies, LLC, will be recognized for his philanthropic business and public policy achievements with City of Hope’s Spirit of Life Award.
Hunt will be honored at the 36th Annual Spirit of Life gala Sept. 17 at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel and Spa in Anaheim, which will benefit City of Hope. Officials at City of Hope, a leading research, treatment and education center for cancer, diabetes and other life threatening diseases, note that the Spirit of Life Award is the agency’s most prestigious philanthropic honor.
“It’s an honor to work with an organization that is committed to saving lives through groundbreaking research for cancer and other devastating illnesses,” said Hunt.
“I’m dedicated to supporting the goal of achieving a future without cancer. The research efforts of today will ensure the future cures for many unknown cancer victims.”
California Strategies, LLC is a full-service public affairs consulting firm. Prior to California Strategies, Hunt was on the board of directors and executive committee, and served as executive vice president at The Irvine Company for 24 years.
He was also founding chairman of the Kennecott Land Company in Salt Lake City and served as a member and lead independent director of the Grubb & Ellis Company’s board of directors, where he was interim president and chief executive officer.
As a resident of Marina del Rey, Hunt currently serves on the boards of William Lyon Homes, C.T. Realty and Glenair Corp.
“Gary brings tremendous expertise to help bring the political community and city planning industry together to raise support for vital research and treatment programs for cancer,” said Beth Ida Stern, senior director of development for City of Hope. “We are grateful for his commitment to help others and improve the odds of beating a disease that deeply affects us all.”
