After two and a half months as librarian at the Lloyd W. Ta-ber-Marina del Rey Library, Susan Baier admits she finds her role as local community library manager stimulating.

“It’s never a dull moment at the Lloyd Taber-Marina del Rey Library,” Baier said. “Marina del Rey is just a great community.

“The people are very interested in literature. There are a lot of readers and writers who live here and visit the library,” she said.

Baier was named to the top job at the Admiralty Way library December 6th.

She began her career with the County of Los Angeles Public Library system in March 2003 as a children’s librarian for the Lennox Library in Lennox.

She also worked as a children’s librarian for the Mayme Dear Library in Gardena and the Angelo M. Iacoboni Library in Lakewood.

Prior to moving to California in 2001, she was a librarian in Illinois and Ohio.

She has a master’s degree in library and information science from the University of Kentucky and a bachelor’s degree in English from McKendree College in Illinois.

Baier lives in San Pedro with her husband, Eric.

At the Lloyd Taber-Marina del Rey Library, Baier oversees a staff of four full-time members, ten part-time members and several volunteers.

“We are fortunate to have this staff,” said Virginia Harms, Friends of the Library president.

“They really do add a personal touch to their jobs,” she said.

Friends of the Library in the Marina has more than 100 members, whose fundraising efforts are credited with keeping the local library open three extra hours each week.

The library has approximately 9,600 visitors each month and daily circulation of books, tapes and other checked out materials is 900 to 1,000.

“I like helping people and this is a cozy library with great staff and quality children’s programs,” Baier said.

The library is at 4533 Admiralty Way, Marina del Rey.

Library hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday; noon to 8 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday; noon to 6 p.m. on Friday; and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

The library is closed on Sunday and Monday.
