A deputy assigned to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Marina del Rey Station has been arrested for allegedly committing lewd acts on a child, authorities said.
Oscar Rodriguez, a 10-year veteran deputy with the department, is suspected of committing the lewd acts while he was off-duty, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson said.
Rodriguez, a Los Angeles resident, was arrested by theLAPD Feb. 16. He was booked into the LAPD’s Metropolitan Detention Center and his bail was set at $100,000, the LAPD spokesperson said.
LAPD officials have advised and been in contact with the Sheriff’s Department, which will conduct its own separate internal investigation.
Rodriguez was immediately relieved of duty by the Sheriff’s Department pending the outcome of both the criminal and administrative investigations, according to the LAPD.
The arrest comes after another sheriff’s deputy was charged in October with allegedly sexually molesting a 15-year-old girl whom he met while on duty at the Marina del Rey station. Kenneth Alexander was charged by the county District Attorney’s Office with one count of oral copulation of a person under 16 and two counts of lewd act upon a child age 15.
Alexander allegedly met the 15-year-old girl while he was working on duty at the Marina Sheriff’s station in 2010 and responded to an investigation at her home, a district attorney spokeswoman said.
