Two south jetty view piers in Marina del Rey that have been deemed unsafe for public use at this time were recently closed by the Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors.
The temporary closure is due to excessive corrosion and fatigue of the main support girders which secure the entire decking platform, according to the department. Officials will review the options for temporary repair and determine plans for permanent repair or replacement.
Access to the south jetty and 62nd Street Bridge will remain open for pedestrians and fishing. Alternative fishing locations are available at Burton Chace Park and the north jetty.
During the repairs, no access to the south jetty view piers will be available to visitors. The department will announce the reopening of the view piers when they are deemed safe for public use.
